How do you measure water pressure?

Water pressure is measured with a water pressure gauge that we attach to your water system to give you a spot-measurement of your current PSI level.

What do you look for?

Pressure Standards

Below 40

PSI — Low pressure

40–80

PSI — Normal range

Above 80

PSI — Excessive

Low pressure causes inconvenience with poor flow at fixtures. High pressure risks damaging pipes, fixtures, and seals while wasting water.

Homes receive water from either on-site wells or municipal providers. External factors affecting pressure include elevation, main service line size, and distance from the water source. Internal factors include clogged lines, galvanized piping, and undersized pipes.

Can I fix it?

High pressure: Install a pressure regulator or reducing valve before water enters the home.
Low pressure: Our inspection identifies whether issues are isolated to single fixtures or systemic, potentially requiring plumbing upgrades or municipal infrastructure improvements.

How Pressure Testing Protects Buyers and Sellers

Gas line leaks and plumbing pressure failures are two of the most dangerous and costly problems a home can have. Pressure testing quantifies the integrity of these systems — giving buyers documented assurance and sellers the ability to address issues before they become deal-breakers.

  • Gas line pressure tests to NFPA 54 standards — identifies leaks at fittings, valves, and service entry
  • Domestic water pressure measured at multiple locations — identifies supply pressure issues
  • Results documented with actual PSI readings at test start, during, and after hold period
  • Drip testing identifies slow leaks that flow testing would miss
  • Inspection available as standalone or combined with home inspection

A gas line pressure test takes approximately 30-45 minutes and requires the gas to be off during testing. Results are available immediately and included in the written report delivered the same day.

Pressure integrity tests are available for gas lines, plumbing systems, or both. Testing requires advance coordination with the gas utility if the gas service needs to be temporarily shut off. Noble pressure tests are available as standalone services or as add-ons to any home inspection. Results are documented with actual PSI readings and delivered the same day. Frequently Asked Questions

What is a gas pressure test?
A gas pressure test verifies the integrity of the gas distribution system within a structure. We pressurize the system and monitor for pressure drop over time to confirm there are no leaks in the gas lines. Any drop indicates a leak that must be repaired before occupancy.
When is pressure testing required?
Pressure testing is required after new gas line installation, after any repair or modification to gas lines, and is strongly recommended on older homes, properties that have been vacant, or when a gas odor has been reported.
Do you also pressure test plumbing?
Yes. We can pressure test water supply lines to identify slow leaks that may not be visible during a standard inspection. This is especially useful in homes with older galvanized or copper piping.
How long does a pressure test take?
A residential gas pressure test typically takes 30–60 minutes. Water pressure testing adds additional time depending on the number of zones tested.
Is pressure testing covered by the standard inspection?
Standard home inspections include a visual inspection of gas lines and plumbing. A dedicated pressure test is a separate service recommended when specific concerns are identified or required by a lender or insurer.
